North Carolina looks to move up in ACC standings

Jan 24, 2007 - 4:24 PM No. 4 North Carolina (17-2) at Wake Forest (9-9) 7:00 pm EST

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Tyler Hansbrough and North Carolina want to extend Wake Forest's losing streak.

A pair of teams headed in opposite directions square off Wednesday when the fourth-ranked Tar Heels visit Wake Forest in an Atlantic Coast Conference clash.

The preseason conference favorite, North Carolina (17-2, 4-1 ACC) are one game behind first-place Boston College (14-5, 6-1).

Since dropping a 94-88 decision to Virginia Tech on January 13, the Tar Heels have won consecutive contests, including Saturday's 77-61 victory over Georgia Tech.

Hansbrough scored 24 points while Reyshawn Terry finished with 16 for UNC, which is second in the country in scoring at 87.5 points per game.

While the Tar Heels have thrived throughout the campaign, the Demon Deacons (9-9, 1-5) have dropped four straight, including an 88-76 loss at Virginia on Sunday.

Freshman Jamie Skeen scored 14 points for Wake Forest, which has won six of its last eight meetings with the Tar Heels.
