Fields, Panthers hope to start a new win streak

Jan 27, 2007 - 2:34 PM St Johns (12-8) at No. 9 Pittsburgh (18-3) 4:00 pm EST

PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Ninth-ranked Pittsburgh looks for its second straight win when it hosts Big East rival St. John's on Saturday.

Pittsburgh (6-1 Big East) rebounded from its 77-74 overtime loss against Marquette on Sunday by pounding Cincinnati, 67-51, three days later. Levance Fields sank a career-high six 3-pointers and finished with 18 points for the Panthers.

The output snapped a slump for Fields, who only averaged 6.4 points in five games following a season-high 24-point performance in a 74-66 victory over Syracuse on January 4.

The Red Storm (3-4 Big East) have won two straight after four consecutive losses and come off a 71-68 home win against No. 22 Notre Dame on Tuesday.

Lamont Hamilton led St. John's with 23 points for his biggest output since he poured in 36 points in a 76-70 win over Columbia on December 23.

Hamilton only averaged 10.7 points per game in his seven outings since the Columbia game.
