Oregon, Washington State meet in key Pac-10 showdown

Jan 27, 2007 - 3:43 PM No. 7 Oregon (18-2) at No. 18 Washington St (16-3)

PULLMAN, Washington (Ticker) - Oregon will have to start a new win streak while going through a tough stretch in their Pac-10 Conference schedule.

The seventh-ranked Ducks had their five-game win streak ended in their last game, and now they take on No. 18 Washington State on Saturday in the first of three straight games against ranked opponents.

Oregon (18-2, 6-2 Pac-10) is tied for second place in the Pac Ten with the Cougars, and play at No. 3 UCLA on Thursday and at 25th-ranked USC next Saturday.

Oregon has its streak snapped in an 89-77 loss at Washington on Thursday. Bryce Taylor led the Ducks with 19 points and Chamberlain Oughi finished with 15 points, but it was not enough to offset 18 Ducks turnovers.

The Ducks played without leading scorer Aaron Brooks, who was suspended for the game after elbowing Washington's Ryan Appleby during last spring's Pac Ten Tournament.

The Cougars are 9-0 at home this season and have won two straight after downing Oregon State, 70-55, on Thursday. Robbie Cowgill led the Cougars with 18 points after averaging only 5.5 in his two previous games.

Kyle Weaver added 12 for the Cougars and Ivory Clark netted 11 to finish in double digits for the fourth straight game.
