Mount St. Mary's, Md. 73, American U. 62

Nov 19, 2009 - 4:44 AM WASHINGTON (AP) -- Jeremy Goode scored 17 points to lead Mount St. Mary's (Md.) to a 73-62 win over American University on Wednesday night.

The Eagles (0-3) are off to their worst start since the 2005-06 season when they were 0-6.

The Mountaineers led by as many as nine in the first half and took a 35-32 lead into halftime. Mount St. Mary's (1-1) then made 53.8 percent of its shots in the second half (14 of 26) while leading by as many as 19, at 65-46 with 9:08 left.

American cut the lead to 66-58 with 3:46 left on a layup by Blake Jolivette, but could get no closer. The Eagles shot 33.3 percent from the field in the second half (12-for-36) and were 4-for-4 from the foul line.

Kelly Beidler added 14 for the Mountaineers, who were 10-for-23 from 3-point range, and Shawn Atupem had 13.

Riley Grafft and Stephen Lumpkins scored 17 apiece for American. Lumpkins also had 12 rebounds.
