Mississippi State defeats SE Louisiana 82-67

Nov 20, 2009 - 2:55 AM STARKVILLE, Miss.(AP) -- Jarvis Varnado had 20 points, nine rebounds and eight blocks to lead Mississippi State to a 82-67 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday night.

The Bulldogs (1-1) outrebounded the Lions 47-30 and got double-digit outings from all five starters.

Southeastern Louisiana (2-1) was 26-for-66 from the field with 11 turnovers.

Mississippi State led 42-29 at the half behind Ravern Johnson's 11 points and dominated the second half offensively. Johnson finished with 17 points on 7-for-13 shooting.

Phil Turner had a double-double for the Bulldogs with 14 rebounds and 10 points, while Barry Stewart had 13 points and Dee Bost chipped in 10 with four assists.

Patrick Sullivan paced the Lions with 20 points and seven rebounds. Trent Hutchin chipped in 14 points on 4-for-8 shooting behind the arc.
