Marquette aims for sixth straight win Sunday at USF

Jan 28, 2007 - 2:51 PM No. 20 Marquette (18-4) at South Florida (11-10) 2:00 pm EST

TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) -- No. 20 Marquette looks to keep rolling Sunday when it visits South Florida in a Big East Conference contest.

The Golden Eagles (18-4, 5-2 Big East) have won five straight games since absorbing back-to-back defeats at Providence on January 4 and vs. Syracuse three days later.

On Wednesday, Marquette posted an 89-76 home win over Seton Hall behind Jerel McNeal and fellow sophomore Wesley Matthews, who scored 22 points apiece.

South Florida (11-10, 2-5) had lost three of its previous four games before routing visiting Rutgers on Thursday, 62-40.

Kentrell Gransberry collected 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Bulls, who opened a 20-point halftime advantage and cruised home.

The teams did not meet last season, their first in the Big East. Marquette possesses a 12-2 all-time lead in the series, with the majority of the meetings occurring when the schools were members of Conference USA.

The Bulls last defeated the Golden Eagles during the 1988-99 season.
