Virginia Tech looks to hand Georgia Tech first home loss

ATLANTA (Ticker) -- Georgia Tech certainly is pleased to be playing Virginia Tech at home.

The Yellow Jackets try to remain perfect at Alexander Memorial Coliseum this season when they host the 23rd-ranked Hokies in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup on Sunday.

Georgia Tech (13-5, 2-4 ACC) slipped to 0-5 on the road this season with an 80-65 setback at Maryland on Wednesday.

Freshman Thaddeus Young scored 21 points for the Yellow Jackets, who are 11-0 here and 2-1 in neutral-site games this season. Young also scored 22 in a 77-61 road loss at North Carolina on January 20.

Virginia Tech (15-5, 5-1) has won back-to-back contests and six of seven, including a 92-85 triumph at Miami on Tuesday.

Zabian Dowdell scored a career-high 30 points and Deron Washington added 23 and 10 rebounds for the Hokies, who shot a season-high 58 percent from the field and made 34-of-42 free throws.

Virginia Tech is 6-2 all-time against Georgia Tech, including 2-0 in regular-season ACC matchups.
