Fairfield beats American 72-56
Nov 24, 2009 - 3:44 AM WASHINGTON, D.C.(AP) -- Yorel Dawkins scored 18 points as Fairfield overcame a two-point halftime deficit to cruise past winless American University 72-56 on Monday night.Derek Needham scored 13 points, Mike Evanovich had 11 and Lyndon Jordan added 10 for the Stags (3-1), who outscored the Eagles 45-27 in the second half to seal the win.
Leading 45-42 with 9:57 left, Fairfield went on a 16-4 run in just over 5 minutes to take control of the game. Jordan hit a pair of 3s to fuel the spree.
Nick Hendra and Stephen Lumpkins scored 14 points apiece to pace the Eagles (0-5).
American outrebounded Fairfield 37-27, but turned the ball over 20 times compared to just eight for the Stags.
Fairfield was 11-for-15 from the free-throw line, while American hit just 5 of 13 foul shots.
