No. 5 UCLA can avenge first loss of season vs. No. 9 Oregon

Feb 1, 2007 - 2:59 PM No. 9 Oregon (19-2) at No. 5 UCLA (18-2) 10:30 pm EST

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- UCLA has not forgotten its previous encounter against Oregon, which resulted in its first loss of the season.

The fifth-ranked Bruins look to avenge that defeat and win for the fifth time in six contests in Thursday's rematch with the ninth-ranked Ducks in a Pac-10 Conference clash.

UCLA (18-2, 7-2 Pac-10) won its first 14 games and was the nation's top-ranked team before suffering a 68-66 loss to Oregon on January 6. Aaron Brooks led the Ducks with 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting and Maarty Luenen added 18.

Ironically, Oregon's victory came two days after its first loss of the campaign, an 84-82 defeat to Southern California.

After falling to the Ducks, the Bruins won their next four contests before Sunday's 75-68 loss at Stanford. Arron Afflalo scored 22 points and Darren Collison had 17 for UCLA.

Oregon (19-2, 7-2) is 6-1 in its last seven games since beating UCLA. The team is off to its best start since winning 20 of its first 21 in 1926-1927.

The Ducks hope to carry momentum from Saturday's 77-74 overtime victory over Washington State. Brooks scored 31 points and Tajuan Porter added 17 for Oregon, which enjoyed a 42-29 rebounding edge.
