North Texas pulls past Rice 64-62
Dec 5, 2009 - 11:25 PM HOUSTON(AP) -- Josh White sank six free throws in the final two minutes as part of a 14-point day to pull North Texas ahead of Rice in a tight 64-62 win on Saturday.White was perfect from the line, hitting all nine tries, and went two-for-five from the field.
The Mean Green (5-2) scored 33 points from the bench, including 15 from Dominique Johnson and 12 from Collin Mangrum. Starter Eric Tramiel added 10.
The Owls (4-4) tied the game at 59 with a 3-pointer by Connor Frizzelle with a little more than 90 seconds left.
But White followed up by hitting two quick free throws to put North Texas ahead for good.
Rice saw double-digit scoring from four players, including a double-double from Arsalan Kazemi, who had 12 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Tamir Jackson added 13 points, Lucas Kuipers had 11 and Frizzelle 10.
