Iowa wins without ailing head coach, 80-51

Dec 5, 2009 - 11:42 PM IOWA CITY, Iowa(AP) -- The Iowa Hawkeyes gave ailing coach Todd Lickliter a dose of good medicine Saturday with an 80-51 victory over Prairie View A&M.

Lickliter, 54, was hospitalized Saturday and underwent an undisclosed medical procedure at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. Lickliter reportedly was doing well following his procedure and will be hospitalized for another day or two. Assistant coach Chad Walthall served as the interim head coach Saturday.

Anthony Tucker scored 20 points and the Hawkeyes (3-5) tied a school record with 15 3-pointers. Eric May scored 14 points, Matt Gatens 12 and Deven Bawinkel 11 for Iowa. May also grabbed 11 rebounds.

Darnell Hugee led Prairie View A&M (3-4) with 12 points. The Panthers played without two starters with Chris Jones sidelined with a foot injury and Tim Meadows absent to attend the birth of his child on Saturday.
