No. 18 Virginia Tech meets Boston College in key ACC battle
Feb 3, 2007 - 2:47 PM No. 18 Virginia Tech (16-6) at Boston College (15-6) 1:00 pm ESTCHESTNUT HILL, Massachusetts (Ticker) -- Devastating accuracy from the arc has helped Boston College move closer to the top of the Atlantic Coast Conference standings.
The Eagles attempt to win for the ninth time in 11 games and possibly move into first place in the ACC on Saturday, when they host No. 18 Virginia Tech.
Boston College is 6-2 against conference foes and is tied with the Hokies for second place, one-half game in back of North Carolina, which visits North Carolina State later Saturday.
The Eagles set a school record with 14 3-pointers and finished shooting nearly 69 percent (33-of-48) from the floor in Wednesday's 94-60 rout of Hartford. Jared Dudley made all eight of his shots and scored 21 points and Sean Marshall added 13.
Virginia Tech is coming off one of its worst shooting performances of the campaign in Wednesday's 70-59 loss to N.C. State. The Hokies shot just 35 percent (21-of-60).
Reigning ACC Player of the Week Zabian Dowdell was 4-of-11 from the floor and scored 16 points and Deron Washington and Jamon Gordon added 12 each for Virginia Tech, which had its 10-game home winning streak ended.
Boston College has won all four encounters against Virginia Tech since joining the ACC and eight of 10 all-time matchups.
