Fairfield eases by Holy Cross 73-54
Dec 10, 2009 - 2:17 AM FAIRFIELD, Conn.(AP) -- Yorel Hawkins scored 22 points and Anthony Johnson tallied a double-double, leading Fairfield in a 73-54 win over Holy Cross on Wednesday night.Johnson scored 16 points and grabbed 12 boards for the Stags (7-2), who beat the Crusaders for the first time since they left the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference after the 1989-90 season. Johnson also blocked four shots and grabbed two steals.
Hawkins finished 8-for-13 from the floor, while Johnson was 8-for-15. Freshman Derek Needham, Fairfield's leading scorer coming in with 16.8 points per game, was held to just four points but recorded team-highs with six assists and three steals.
Fairfield has won three straight.
The Stags led by only two points at halftime, but opened the second on a 15-7 run to put the game away.
R.J. Evans was the lone Holy Cross (2-8) player in double figures, scoring 21.
