James, Marquette aim for seventh straight win
Feb 3, 2007 - 4:08 PM Providence (14-6) at No. 15 Marquette (19-4) 2:00 pm ESTMILWAUKEE (Ticker) - Dominic James and No. 15 Marquette look to avenge their first loss in Big East play when they hosts Providence on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles edged South Florida 70-68 last Sunday on a last second layup by Jerel McNeal. James scored 16 points and McNeal finished with 13 for Marquette (19-4, 6-2 Big East), which has won sixth straight since an 0-2 start in Big East play
The first of those losses was a 74-59 road defeat to the Friars on January 4th. Marquette has a chance to win its 20th game for the forth time in coach Tom Crean's eight-year career.
Providence (14-6, 4-3) posted an 84-72 win against slumping Connecticut last Saturday. Weyinmi Efejku scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half as the Friars overcame an 11-point halftime deficit to outscore the Huskies 50-27 in the final 20 minutes.
Sharaud Curry had 12 points and 10 assists for the Friars, who leads the all-time series with the Golden Eagles 4-3, but are 0-2 at Marquette.
Providence is 2-1 vs. Top 25 teams this season.
