No. 8 Texas A&M seeks first win vs. No. 6 Kansas

Feb 3, 2007 - 5:58 PM No. 8 Texas A&M (18-3) at No. 6 Kansas (19-3) 9:00 pm EST

LAWRENCE, Kansas (Ticker) -- The rivalry between Texas A&M and Kansas has not been anywhere as close as they currently are in the Big 12 Conference standings.

The eighth-ranked Aggies look for their first victory in 12 attempts against the No. 6 Jayhawks and remain atop the conference standings when the teams meet Saturday.

Texas A&M (18-3, 6-1 Big 12) has won 11 of its last 12 games and is in a three-way tie for first place in the Big 12 with Kansas and Texas. The Aggies' lone defeat during that stretch was a 70-68 setback to Texas on January 24.

Off to the best 21-game start in school history, Texas A&M is coming off Wednesday's 73-49 triumph over Iowa State. Joseph Jones scored 21 points and Acie Law and Antanas Kavaliauskas added 13 each for the Aggies.

The Jayhawks have won their last three contests since falling to Texas Tech, 69-64, on January 20. They are 12-1 at home and can record their 18th consecutive 20-win campaign.

Kansas used a 27-0 run en route to Monday's 76-56 triumph over Nebraska. Brandon Rush scored 20 points and fellow sophomore Julian Wright added 17.

Last season's Big 12 Coach of the Year, Bill Self is two wins shy of his 300th career victory and is 91-27 in his fourth season at Kansas.
