Air Force faces San Diego State, looks to snap road slump

Feb 6, 2007 - 4:35 PM No. 13 Air Force (20-3) at San Diego St (15-7) 10:00 pm EST

SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- Despite one of the best seasons in program history, Air Force has stumbled away from home this season.

With all three of their losses coming on the road, the 13th-ranked Falcons will take on San Diego State in a Mountain West Conference matchup on Tuesday.

Air Force lost to 11th-ranked Duke in Cameron Indoor Stadium on November 20 and at Utah on January 16. However, its most crushing road defeat came against Brigham Young, 61-52, on January 27. It shot a season-low 38 percent in the contest, recording its worst scoring output of the season.

The Falcons (20-3, 7-2 MWC) did bounce back with an 88-43 home rout of Wyoming on Saturday, posting the biggest margin of victory in the Mountain West's nine-year history. Dan Nwaelele and Jacob Burtschi scored 18 points each for Air Force, which is currently tied with BYU for the top spot in the league.

Looking to solve some of their road issues, the Falcons will take on an Aztecs squad that has won their last two games, including a 76-71 victory over TCU last Wednesday. Brandon Heath had 22 points and 10 rebounds and Lorenzo Wade scored 19.

Although San Diego State (15-7, 4-4) has also won its last three home games, it will have its hands full with Air Force, which posted a 56-51 victory in the first meeting on January 20.

The Falcons, who scored the final six points to seal that win, got 23 points and five 3-pointers from Burtschi.
