Kansas State brings seven-game winning streak into Kansas

Feb 7, 2007 - 4:38 PM Kansas St (17-6) at No. 8 Kansas (19-4) 9:00 pm EST

LAWRENCE, Kansas (Ticker) -- The hottest team in the Big 12 Conference will take the floor at Allen Fieldhouse on Wednesday night - and it's not the home squad.

Kansas State looks to extend its seven-game winning streak Wednesday when it visits eighth-ranked Kansas in a Big 12 showdown between in-state rivals.

One of the biggest surprises in the conference, the Wildcats (17-6, 6-2 Big 12) have posted a thrilling 73-72 at Texas on Saturday to move into a three-way tie for second place in the Big 12 with the Longhorns and Kansas (19-4, 6-2).

Cartier Martin and Lance Harris combined for 46 points and 12 3-pointers as Kansas State survived a 28-point, 15-rebound performance from freshman sensation Kevin Durant to snap Texas' 22-game home winning streak.

The Wildcats will be hard-pressed to continue its win streak against the Jayhawks, who have dominated the series, winning 32 of the last 33 meetings dating to the 1990 season.

However, Kansas State snapped a 31-game losing streak at Kansas last season with a 59-55 victory on January 14, 2006.

The Jayhawks are coming off a surprising 68-66 home loss to then-No. 8 Texas A&M.

Kansas led by 10 points with 6 1/2 minutes to play but managed just one basket the rest of the way in losing to the Aggies for the first time in program history.

Freshman point guard Sherron Collins led the Jayhawks with 18 points, but coach Bill Self had him on the bench for the final four minutes.
