Marquette looks to continue Big East run against Rutgers

Feb 7, 2007 - 4:42 PM Rutgers (9-14) at No. 12 Marquette (20-4) 8:00 pm EST

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Marquette is cruising along in Big East Conference play and figures to continue its run Wednesday.

The 12th-ranked Golden Eagles aim for their eighth straight conference win when they host Rutgers.

Marquette (20-4, 7-2 Big East) opened conference play with losses to Providence and Syracuse but have not lost since. The Golden Eagles avenged one of those losses Saturday with a 69-62 victory over the Friars.

Sophomore Jerel McNeal posted his second double-double of the season with 18 points and a career-high tying 12 rebounds.

Dan Fitzgerald added 14 points and Wesley Matthews 12. Matthews has led the team in scoring over the past five games averaging 15.4 per game.

The Scarlet Knights (9-14, 2-8) won six of seven games leading into conference play but have fallen on hard times since.

Rutgers has lost two straight games and seven of their last eight, including Saturday's 61-50 overtime loss at Connecticut.

Rutgers posted a 91-84 victory last season in its only previous meeting with Marquette.
