No. 1 Florida can remain unbeaten in SEC play

Feb 10, 2007 - 4:39 PM No. 1 Florida (22-2) at No. 18 Kentucky (18-5) 9:00 pm EST

LEXINGTON, Kentucky (Ticker) -- Florida is closing in on more milestones as it seeks the best record in the Southeastern Conference.

The top-ranked Gators can win their 16th consecutive game and remain undefeated in SEC play Saturday when they visit No. 18 Kentucky in their first meeting of the season.

Looking to become the first SEC team to defeat the Wildcats five straight times since Tennessee from 1975-1977, Florida can move within one victory of tying the school record for the longest winning streak set last season.

The Gators (22-2, 9-0 SEC East) continue to rank among the nation's leaders in field goal shooting percentage (54.0) and three-point shooting (44.0). They can open conference play with 10 wins for the first time in school history.

Unbeaten since December 3 against Florida State, the Gators kept their streaks alive with Wednesday's 71-61 victory over Georgia. Corey Brewer scored 18 points to reach 1,000 for his career and Al Horford added 17 with 10 rebounds.

The Wildcats (18-5, 7-2) are looking to win its 400th victory in just 449 games at Rupp Arena. They have won their last three contests and trail Florida by two games in the SEC East.

Kentucky is coming off Wednesday's 95-89 triumph over South Carolina. Ramel Bradley scored 21 points and Bobby Perry had 18 for the Wildcats, who held on after failing to hold a 28-point lead.

Florida has not posted back-to-back victories at Rupp Arena since 1988-1989.
