No. 16 Duke tries to snap three-game skid vs. Maryland

Feb 11, 2007 - 1:25 PM No. 16 Duke (18-6) at Maryland (17-7) 5:00 pm EST

COLLEGE PARK, Maryland (Ticker) -- Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski has had to wait a little longer than expected for his 700th victory with the Blue Devils.

No. 16 Duke looks to snap a three-game losing streak and move back above the .500 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference play when they meet Maryland for the first time this season.

Krzyzewski again tries to post his 699th triumph at Duke and move within one of becoming the eighth coach in Division I history and the second fastest to record 700 at the same school. This will be his 896th game with the Blue Devils. Only Kentucky's Adolph Rupp reached the milestone in fewer games (836).

Duke (18-6, 5-5 ACC) won five of its first seven ACC contests before its recent slump and is hoping to avoid dropping four in a row for the first time since January 3-13, 1996.

After falling to Virginia and Florida State, the Blue Devils suffered a 79-73 loss to North Carolina on Wednesday. Freshman Jon Scheyer scored a season-high 26 points and Greg Paulus added 15.

Despite ranking among the nation's top 15 teams in scoring (79.9) and blocked shots (7.1), the Terrapins (17-7, 3-6) have dropped five of their last eight outings.

Maryland is coming off Tuesday's 69-65 loss to Virginia. Mike Jones scored 18 points, Greivis Vasquez added 13 and D.J. Strawberry 11 for the Terrapins.

Strawberry is 27 points shy of becoming the 45th player in school history to score 1,000 for his career.
