Georgetown hopes to extend seven-game winning streak

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Georgetown is playing like it wants to win the Big East Conference title.

The 16th-ranked Hoyas aim to move closer to first place when they host No. 22 West Virginia on Monday.

Georgetown (18-5, 8-2 Big East) is 1 1/2 games behind first-place Pittsburgh and hosts the Panthers on February 24.

The Hoyas have won seven consecutive games by an average margin of 15.6 points.

Georgetown pounded 11th-ranked Marquette, 76-58, on Saturday. Jeff Green matched his season-high with 24 points and Roy Hibbert collected 23 points and 11 rebounds.

Hibbert is averaging 16.4 points and shooting 77 percent in his last seven games.

The Mountaineers (19-5, 7-4) are in a fourth-place tie with Louisville. They have won five of their last six, including a huge 70-65 win over second-ranked UCLA on Saturday.

West Virginia held the Bruins to a season-low 22 first-half points and held on for the win by sinking seven of eight free throws in the final minute.

Alex Ruoff led West Virginia with 18 points after scoring just 15 in his previous three games. Frank Young scored 14 points and Da'Sean Butler scored 13.

Butler averages 10.3 points a game but has scored 48 in his last three contests.
