Nevada seeks 10th straight win over San Jose State

Feb 14, 2007 - 2:54 PM San Jose St (4-20) at No. 10 Nevada (22-2) 10:05 pm EST

RENO, Nevada (Ticker) -- Nevada has its best player performing like one as it inches closer to a conference title.

Nick Fazakas looks to lead the 10th-ranked Wolf Pack to their sixth straight victory and 10th in a row at home Wednesday when they host San Jose State in a Western Athletic Conference clash.

The two-time WAC Player of the Year and career scoring leader with Nevada, Fazekas has led or tied for the team best in scoring 11 times this season. He is averaging 20.6 points and 10.7 rebounds.

Fazekas, who seems fully recovered from last month's ankle injury, scored a season-high 33 points on 14-of-21 shooting and grabbed 15 rebounds last Thursday as Nevada posted an 81-68 victory over Fresno State.

Kyle Shiloh scored 18 points with 11 rebounds for the Wolf Pack (22-2, 10-1 WAC), who have a two-game lead over New Mexico State in the WAC.

The Spartans (4-20, 3-9) have losing streaks of eight and six games this season and are two games ahead of Idaho in the race to avoid last place in the WAC.

San Jose State lost for the sixth time in eight contests with Saturday's 65-64 loss to Boise State. Menelik Barbary scored 15 points and Lance Holloway added 12 for the Spartans.

Without the injured Fazekas, Nevada defeated San Jose State for the ninth consecutive time with a 72-63 triumph on January 11. Marcellus Kemp led the Wolf Pack with 33 points.
