Tucker aims to move closer to Wisconsin scoring record

Feb 14, 2007 - 2:57 PM No. 3 Wisconsin (24-2) at Minnesota (9-16) 8:00 pm EST

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Alando Tucker is intent on finishing his career as Wisconsin's all-time leading scorer.

Tucker attempts to maintain his torrid scoring pace for the third-ranked Badgers, who can tie the school's single-season record for wins Wednesday when they visit Minnesota in a Big Ten Conference matchup.

The Preseason Big Ten Player of the Year, Tucker has scored at least 20 points in five consecutive games. He is shooting 52 percent (41-of-82) from the floor and averaging 23 points during that stretch.

Tucker became the second Badger and 24th Big Ten player in history to eclipse 2,000 points when he scored 21 for Wisconsin in Saturday's 74-62 triumph over Iowa. He needs 128 points to surpass Michael Finley (2,147) for the school's all-time mark.

Wisconsin (24-2, 10-1 Big Ten) is tied with Ohio State for first place in the conference race and can equal the school single-season record for wins set in 2003-2004 and matched the following season.

The Golden Gophers (9-16, 3-8) have dropped seven of their last 10 and are in ninth place in the Big Ten standings.

Minnesota lost its third consecutive game with Saturday's 82-80 defeat at Michigan. Dan Coleman and Lawrence McKenzie scored 18 points apiece for the Golden Gophers.

Wisconsin has won 10 of the last 11 encounters with Minnesota, including a 68-45 victory on January 6.
