Cal seeks to snap six-game losing streak

Feb 15, 2007 - 3:09 PM No. 17 Oregon (20-5) at California (12-12) 10:30 pm EST

BERKELEY, California (Ticker) -- A six-game losing streak has essentially removed California from at-large consideration to the NCAA Tournament. The Golden Bears will try to halt the skid on Thursday when they face No. 17 Oregon in a Pac-10 contest.

Oregon (20-5, 8-5 Pac-10) rolled to a 92-84 win in the first meeting between the teams on January 20.

California held a 46-38 halftime lead before Oregon opened the second half with a 22-6 run. The Bears managed to tie the score again at 62-62, but Aaron Brooks countered with a three-pointer to put the Ducks ahead for good. Sophomore forward Theo Robinson led the Bears with 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting.

California (12-12, 4-8) is down to nine active scholarship players because of numerous injuries. The loss of junior center DeVon Hardin to a stress fracture on December 19 has been particularly difficult to overcome. The team was 8-3 with Hardin in the lineup and had allowed only one opponent to shoot better than 50 percent from the floor. Since his injury, the Bears are 4-9 and have allowed their opponents to shoot better than 50 percent in 10 of those contests.

Oregon has lost four of its last six games after starting 18-1.

The Ducks are coming off a 77-74 loss to No. 24 Arizona. Freshman Chase Budinger torched the Ducks for 30 points on 12-of-21 shooting.
