Stony Brook holds off Vermont 65-60

Jan 22, 2010 - 2:56 AM BURLINGTON, Vt.(AP) -- Bryan Dougher scored 20 points, including a late free throw, to lead Stony Brook to a 65-60 win over Vermont on Thursday night.

Marqus Blakely hit two layups to pull Vermont within 61-60 with 2:29 remaining in the game, but Stony Brook held the Catamounts scoreless the rest of the way.

Chris Martin dropped in a layup and Muhammad El-Amin and Dougher hit a free throw apiece, clinching the win for the Seawolves. The Catamounts went 0-for-3 from beyond the arc in the final 20 seconds.

Martin finished with 13 points and El-Amin had 11 for the Seawolves (13-7, 5-2 American East Conference), who have won two in a row and six of their last eight games.

Blakely recorded a double-double for Vermont (14-6, 5-1), scoring 17 and grabbing 11 rebounds. Evan Fjeld also accomplished the feat, scoring 13 points and pulling down 10 boards.
