Sikma paces Portland past Loyola Marymount 79-39
Jan 22, 2010 - 5:08 AM PORTLAND, Ore.(AP) -- Luke Sikma scored a career-high 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Portland to an easy 79-39 victory over Loyola Marymount on Thursday night. The Pilots (11-7, 2-2 West Coast Conference) won despite playing without leading scorer Nik Raivio, who strained his Achilles' tendon at practice Tuesday. That broke a streak of 49 consecutive starts for the senior guard.
With Raivio sidelined, the Pilots turned to their front court to pick up the slack. Sikma, who had been scoring seven points a game off the bench, hit 7 of 11 shots and 5 of 6 free throws. His team-high total eclipsed his previous high of 17.
Forward Robin Smeulders had nine first-half points and 11 for the game. Jared Stohl, Raivio's replacement at shooting guard, scored 14 points, all in the second half.
Drew Viney led Loyola Marymount (10-10, 1-3) with 18 points on 6-of-16 shooting.
