Georgetown goes for ninth straight win

Feb 17, 2007 - 2:30 PM No. 16 Georgetown (19-5) at Villanova (18-7) 12:00 pm EST

VILLANOVA, Pennsylvania (Ticker) - The Georgetown Hoyas bring an eight game winning streak to Villanova when the teams meet Saturday in a Big East Conference matchup.

Georgetown (19-5, 9-2 Big East) suffered its first Big East loss of the season, 56-52, to the Wildcats on January 8. Villanova hit four straight free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

Freshman Scottie Reynolds led the Wildcats with 16 points in the first meeting.

The Villanova (18-7, 6-5) defense asserted itself against the Hoyas, holding star Roy Hibbert to two points on zero field-goal attempts while limiting forward Jeff Green to just seven points.

Hibbert had no such problems in the Hoyas' last game Monday against West Virginia, scoring 20 points and grabbing six rebounds in a 71-53 victory over the No. 22 Mountaineers.

Georgetown shot just under 79 percent in the first half and went into the break with a 37-20 lead, from which West Virginia could not recover.

Villanova brings its own four game win streak into Saturday's contest after a 64-48 victory over Cincinnati on Wednesday. Mike Nardi led the Wildcats with 16 points as Villanova used a 22-0 run early in the first half to break the game open.

A win against Georgetown would move Villanova to two games above .500 in the Big East and would certainly help their NCAA tournament hopes.
