McKnight pushes Akron over Ball State 75-70 in OT

Feb 6, 2010 - 8:09 PM MUNCIE, Ind.(AP) -- Brett McKnight drilled a 3-pointer with 1:14 left in overtime to lead Akron past Ball State 75-70 on Saturday.

Two players had double-doubles for the Zips (17-7, 7-3 Mid-American), who beat Ball State for the sixth straight time. Nikola Cvetinovic had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Jimmy Conyers had 12 points and 10 boards.

Anthony Hitchens led Akron with 17 points. McKnight added 12.

Jarrod Jones scored 16 points to pace the Cardinals (12-10, 6-4), whose four-game winning streak ended. Randy Davis and Malik Perry added 15 apiece, and Terrence Watson had 11.

Hitchens' 3-pointer put Akron ahead 60-58 with 2:01 left, but Jones scored in the paint with 27 seconds left to force overtime.

Hitchens' free throw put Akron ahead 65-64, after which Jones' jumper gave Ball State a one-point advantage with 1:34 left. That set the stage for McKnight's winner with 1:14 to play.
