Durant, No. 20 Texas goes for fifth straight vs. Oklahoma

Feb 24, 2007 - 4:17 PM No. 20 Texas (20-7) at Oklahoma (15-11) 4:00 pm EST

NORMAN, Oklahoma (Ticker) -- Freshmen sensation Kevin Durant and surging Texas are coming on strong at the right time.

The 20th-ranked Longhorns hope to match their season high of five straight wins when they visit slumping Oklahoma in a Big 12 Conference matchup.

A.J. Abrams scored 18 points and Durant added 17 and eight rebounds in Texas' 80-51 thrashing of intrastate rival Texas Tech on Tuesday.

Arguably one of the top players in the nation, Durant is averaging 28.3 points and 12.7 rebounds in the Big 12 this season. He also leads the league with 16 double-doubles, a school record for a freshman.

Tuesday's win helped the Longhorns (20-7, 10-3 Big 12) push their streak of 20-win seasons to eight under coach Rick Barnes, who has secured his team an eighth straight first-round bye in the conference tourney.

The Sooners (15-11, 6-7) are coming off their third consecutive loss with Tuesday's disappointing 72-68 letdown at Missouri.

Texas has won the last three meetings with Oklahoma, but is just all-time 7-21 in Norman.
