Memphis looks to extend nation's longest winning streak

Feb 25, 2007 - 4:29 PM Houston (15-12) at No. 7 Memphis (24-3) 2:00 pm EST

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Nobody in Conference USA seems to be able to tame Memphis.

The seventh-ranked Tigers shoot for their 17th straight win Sunday when they host Houston in a Conference USA contest.

With a win Sunday, Memphis would set the second-longest winning streak in school history. The Tigers, who won 20 straight contests in 1985-86, have not lost since dropping a 79-71 decision to Arizona on December 20.

The Tigers (24-3, 13-0 Conference USA) posted a 79-69 victory in the first meeting between the teams on January 11.

Memphis clinched the conference regular-season title and remained undefeated in C-USA with a 99-63 dismantling of Rice on Thursday. Willie Kemp led the way with 20 points for the Tigers.

Houston (15-12, 9-4) comes into Sunday's contest tied for second in the conference. The Cougars latest win was over Tulane, 78-70. Oliver Lafayette and Robert McKiver each scored 24 points to lead the team.
