Vanderbilt seeks season sweep of Kentucky

Feb 25, 2007 - 5:10 PM Kentucky (19-8) at No. 21 Vanderbilt (18-9) 2:00 pm EST

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Vanderbilt has enjoyed a surprising amount of success against Kentucky of late. Another win against the national powerhouse would put the Commodores in prime postseason position.

The 21st-ranked Commodores aim for their second consecutive season sweep of the Wildcats when the Southeastern Conference rivals square off in Nashville on Sunday.

A season sweep of Kentucky would give Vanderbilt the inside track for a second-place finish in the SEC East and a first-round bye in the conference tournament.

The Commodores (18-9, 8-5 SEC East) and the Wildcats currently are tied for second place, but a win Sunday would give Vanderbilt the tie-breaker.

In the first meeting between the rivals, Vanderbilt held on for a 72-67 win in Lexington on January 20.

Vanderbilt suffered a letdown with Wednesday's 83-70 loss to Mississippi State just four days after knocking off then-No. 1 Florida.

Kentucky (19-8, 8-5) posted a 70-63 triumph over Louisiana State on Tuesday to snap a three-game losing streak. Randolph Morris scored 20 points to lead the Wildcats and eclipse the 1,000-point mark for his career.
