Columbia holds off Penn 56-55
Feb 27, 2010 - 2:54 AM NEW YORK(AP) -- Brian Grimes sank a jumper with 2 seconds remaining and Columbia defeated Penn 56-55 on Friday night.Neither team led by more than five points in the final 10 minutes. Grimes hit a layup to tie the game 54-54 with 52 seconds to play, then Jack Eggleston's free throw with 33 seconds left put Penn ahead 55-54.
Columbia missed two free throws with 16 seconds remaining, then Grimes rebounded a missed free throw by Eggleston 3 seconds later to set up the game-winner.
Noruwa Agho scored 23 points, Niko Scott added 12 and Grimes had 10 for the Lions (10-15, 4-7 Ivy League), who snapped a two-game losing streak. The Lions' only two wins in the past six games have come against Penn.
Dan Moncton had 17 points, Zack Rosen added 16 and Eggleston had 10 for the Quakers (5-19, 4-6).
The two teams have split their season series three straight years.
