Georgetown seeks 12th straight win

Feb 26, 2007 - 3:36 PM No. 12 Georgetown (22-5) at Syracuse (20-8) 7:00 pm EST

SYRACUSE, New York (Ticker) -- Georgetown is peaking at just the right time.

The 12th-ranked Hoyas aim for their 12th straight win Monday when they visit Syracuse in a Big East Conference contest.

First-place Georgetown (22-5, 12-2 Big East) owns a one-game lead over Pittsburgh in the Big East thanks to its longest winning streak since the 1984-85 season when Patrick Ewing starred at the school.

With wins in their last two games, the Hoyas can clinch a No. 1 seed in the Big East tournament for the first time since the 1988-89 campaign.

The Hoyas moved into sole possession of first place in the conference with a 61-53 victory over Pittsburgh on Saturday.

Jonathan Wallace scored 17 points and Jeff Green netted 11 of his 14 points in the second half for the Hoyas, who held the Panthers to 33 percent shooting.

Syracuse (20-8, 9-5) has won four games in a row to move within a game of fourth place in the conference and a first-round bye in the Big East tournament.

The Orange posted a 71-67 triumph at Providence on Saturday. Andy Rautins scored 19 points and Demetrius Nichols added 18 for the Orange.

Syracuse is 41-35 all-time in the series and has won six of the last seven meetings, including a one-point victory in last year's conference tournament.
