Toledo's Cross resigns after school's worst season
Mar 12, 2010 - 2:16 AM TOLEDO, Ohio(AP) -- Gene Cross has resigned as Toledo's men's basketball coach following the worst season in school history.The Rockets finished 4-28 overall and 1-15 in the Mid-American Conference this season.
Cross spent just two seasons at Toledo and had an overall record of 11-53 and a 6-26 conference mark.
The Rockets haven't been to the NCAA tournament since 1980.
The school said Thursday that assistant coach Bob Sundvold will serve as acting head coach until a replacement is hired.
Cross was in his first head coaching job after developing a reputation as a strong recruiter during 11 years as an assistant at Notre Dame, Virginia, DePaul and Illinois-Chicago.
The Chicago native played four seasons at Illinois.
