UCLA aims for season sweep of Washington State
Mar 1, 2007 - 3:45 PM No. 2 UCLA (25-3) at No. 13 Washington St (23-5) 10:00 pm ESTPULLMAN, Washington (Ticker) -- UCLA can clinch an outright Pac-10 regular season title with a victory over Washington State on Thursday night.
The second-ranked Bruins (25-3, 14-2 Pac-10) have won four in a row to build a two-game lead in the Pac-10 with two games to play.
In the first meeting, UCLA overcame a horrible shooting game (33 percent) to pull out a 55-52 win over the Cougars. Guards Arron Afflalo and Darren Collison led the Bruins with 13 points apiece. Derrick Low led the Cougars with 14.
Washington State (23-5, 12-4) has won six of its last seven games, including a 58-54 victory over Oregon State last Saturday. Reserve center Aron Baynes led the Cougars with 14 points and sealed the victory with four free throws in the last 90 seconds.
UCLA posted a 75-61 win over Stanford on Saturday. Afflalo led the way with 20 points.
