Southern California aims for second place in Pac-10

Mar 1, 2007 - 3:49 PM No. 24 Southern California (21-8) at Washington (16-12) 10:00 pm EST

SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Southern California has a chance to move into second place in the Pac-10.

The Trojans (21-8, 11-5 Pac-10) are one game behind Washington State in the conference and will close their regular season at Washington State on Saturday.

Washington State hosts first-place UCLA on Thursday night.

USC needs to get past Washington before it can focus on Saturday's contest at Washington State.

The Huskies (16-12, 6-10) began the season ranked in the Top 25, but have lost four games in a row to fall into seventh place in the Pac-10.

In the first meeting between the teams, then-No. 14 Washington lost a double overtime heartbreaker to the Trojans as Nick Young scored 25 points and Taj Gibson added 22 to lead USC.

The Huskies fell to Oregon, 93-85, last Saturday as star guard Aaron Brooks torched Washington for 31 points.

USC is coming off an 84-66 victory over California behind 18 points from Gibson on 7-of-10 shooting.
