Memphis sets its sights on undefeated conference season

EL PASO, Texas (Ticker) -- Seventh-ranked Memphis owns the nation's longest winning streak and hopes to remain unbeaten in conference play when it visits Texas El Paso on Thursday.

The game will be a reunion for Memphis coach John Calipari and UTEP coach Tony Barbee, who played for Calipari at Massachusetts from 1989-93 and served as an assistant under him at Memphis from 200-2006.

The Tigers (25-3, 14-0 Conference USA) have won 17 in a row, including a 77-64 victory over Houston last Sunday. Chris Douglas-Roberts scored 19 points and Joey Dorsey chipped in 16 and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Memphis.

UTEP (14-14, 6-8) has dropped four of its last five games, including a 79-78 loss to East Carolina on Saturday. The Miners held a two-point lead with 10 seconds to play before guard Courtney Captain nailed a 3-pointer to give East Carolina the win. Stefon Jackson led UTEP with 24 points.

Memphis holds a 5-1 edge in the all-time series, including a 66-56 victory last season.
