Virginia, Virginia Tech in ACC first-place battle

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia (Ticker) -- The battle for the regular season title in the Atlantic Coast Conference is coming down to the final weekend.

Virginia, Virginia Tech and North Carolina are in a three-way tie for first place. North Carolina visits Georgia Tech on Thursday night.

Virginia (19-8, 10-4 ACC), which has won 10 of its last 12 games, will host Virginia Tech (20-8, 10-4) on Thursday.

The Hokies rolled to an 84-57 victory over Virginia in the first meeting as Deron Washington and A.D. Vassallo scored 22 points apiece. Virginia Tech held the Cavaliers to just under 33 percent shooting (21-of-64).

Virginia guards Sean Singletary and J.R. Reynolds are fourth and fifth in the ACC in scoring at 18.5 and 18.4 points, respectively. Reynolds had 25 and Singletary added 24 in the Cavaliers' 75-69 victory over Georgia Tech last Saturday.

Virginia Tech has won two games in a row. Guard Zabian Dowdell led the Hokies with 20 points in a 73-57 win over Miami last weekend.

Boston College is one-half game behind the trio of leaders in the ACC.
