Durant, Longhorns set their sites on first place

LAWRENCE, Kansas (Ticker) - Standout freshman Kevin Durant leads Texas into a battle for first place in the Big 12 Conference on Saturday against No. 3 Kansas.

Kansas (26-4, 13-2 Big 12) will win the title outright with a victory over Texas, but the Longhorns can clinch a tie if they win.

Texas (22-7, 12-3) is coming off a dramatic double overtime win over No. 6 Texas A&M, 98-96. Durant scored 30 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for Texas, which has now won six games in a row.

Durant set a new record for rebounds in Big 12 Conference games with 191 on the season.

Kansas is riding a seven-game winning streak and are coming off a 67-65 win over Oklahoma on Monday. Mario Chalmers and Julian Wright led the Jayhawks with 18 points apiece.

This will be the first meeting of the season between the Big 12 rivals who have split the last six matchups.
