Virginia looks to secure ACC regular season title

Mar 3, 2007 - 3:12 PM No. 25 Virginia (20-8) at Wake Forest (13-15) 1:00 pm EST

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (Ticker) - Virginia can win its first Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season title in over a decade with a win at Wake Forest on Saturday.

The Cavaliers (20-8, 11-5 ACC) have not won a regular season ACC title since sharing the crown in the 1994-95 season.

J.R. Reynolds scored a career-high 40 points in the first meeting with the Demon Deacons this season as Virginia cruised to an 88-76 victory.

Wake Forest (13-15, 4-11) is suffering through a rare down year. They have lost two games in a row to drop into a tie for last place with Miami.

The Cavaliers are coming off a 69-56 victory over in-state rival Virginia Tech. Sean Singletary led the team with 17 points and Virginia held the Hokies to just 36 percent shooting.

Virginia has already clinched its first-ever bye in the ACC tournament.
