Bragging rights on the line between Oregon, Oregon State

Mar 3, 2007 - 4:01 PM Oregon St (11-19) at No. 18 Oregon (22-7) 6:00 pm EST

EUGENE, Oregon (Ticker) - With its spot in the postseason cemented, Oregon can focus on winning state bragging rights.

The 18th-ranked Ducks will look to continue their stellar play at home when they face in-state rival Oregon State.

The Ducks (22-7, 10-7 Pac-10) know that they are definitely in the NCAA tournament no matter what they do against the Beavers or in the conference tournament. However, Oregon State (11-19, 3-14) would need to win the Pac-10 tournament to play in the postseason.

Despite the disparity, the "Civil War" rivalry games are almost always close. The last seven meetings between the two rivals have all be decided by less than 10 points, including a 76-73 victory by Oregon on the road on December 30.

The victory was the Duck's first win away from home in the series in four years. The Beavers have had even more trouble on the road in the rivalry, coming up empty in 13 straight contests - dating back to March 6, 1993.

Oregon posted a 93-85 triumph over Pac-10 Conference foe Washington in its last contest last Saturday. Aaron Brooks scored 30 points to lead all five starters in double figures.

Beau Poppen-Abajian netted 19 points and Bryce Taylor added 16 for the Ducks, who avenged their 89-77 defeat to the Huskies in Seattle on January 25.

Oregon State dropped a 58-54 decision to Washington State on Saturday. The Beavers took a 32-27 lead into the half behind 12 points from Marcel Jones but could not hold on. Jones led Oregon State with 16 points.
