Memphis hopes to stretch its winning streak to 19 games

Mar 3, 2007 - 4:09 PM No. 7 Memphis (26-3) at SMU (14-15) 9:30 pm EST

DALLAS (Ticker) -- Red-hot Memphis already has the conference title locked up and now looks to add on to the nation's longest winning streak.

The seventh-ranked Tigers hopes to end the regular season with their 19th consecutive win when they visit Southern Methodist in a Conference USA matchup on Saturday.

Memphis (26-3, 15-0 C-USA) is one win shy of becoming the first program in seven season to finish undefeated in conference play. It is also two games away from setting a school record.

The Tigers have dominated in Conference USA, blasting opponents by nearly 20 points per contest this season.

Junior Chris Douglas-Roberts scored 21 points and Jeremy Hunt chipped in 19 for Memphis in Thursday's 78-67 triumph at Texas El Paso.

Senior forward Ike Ofoegbu's 29 points was not enough on Wednesday to keep the Mustangs (14-15, 3-12) from falling, 67-60, to Tulsa. SMU has dropped seven of its last eight matchups.

Memphis leads the series 3-1.
