North Carolina goes for regular-season sweep of Duke

Mar 4, 2007 - 4:29 PM No. 14 Duke (22-8) at No. 8 North Carolina (24-6) 4:00 pm EST

CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina (Ticker) -- North Carolina needs to regain some momentum heading into the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.

The eighth-ranked Tar Heels attempt to end a two-game slide and complete a regular-season sweep of rival Duke when the teams meet Sunday in an ACC showdown.

After last Sunday's two-point loss at Maryland, North Carolina (24-6, 10-5 ACC) suffered an 84-77 defeat at Georgia Tech on Thursday. Brandan Wright scored 22 points and Tyler Hansbrough added 16 with 10 rebounds.

Coach Roy Williams has not lost three straight contests at North Carolina and can record his 100th victory in 129 games with the Tar Heels. A finalist for election to the Basketball Hall of Fame, Williams will try to guide the Tar Heels to their 29th 25-win season.

The Blue Devils (22-8, 8-7) have had a roller-coaster campaign that has seen them win five straight games, lose their next four and win four straight since mid-January.

Duke is coming off Wednesday's 85-77 defeat against the Terrapins in its home finale. Greg Paulus scored 20 points and DeMarcus Nelson had 17 for the Blue Devils.

North Carolina has taken three of the past four meetings against Duke, including a 79-73 win February 7. Wright scored 19 points for the Tar Heels, while Jon Scheyer led the Blue Devils with 26.
