No. 7 Texas A&M meets Oklahoma in Big 12 quarterfinals

Mar 9, 2007 - 3:42 PM Oklahoma St (21-11) vs. No. 7 Texas A&M (25-5) 7:00 pm EST

OKLAHOMA CITY (Ticker) -- Texas A&M is long overdue for a little success in the Big 12 Conference Tournament.

The seventh-ranked Aggies could tie the school record for wins Friday when they take on Oklahoma State in the quarterfinals.

Despite three consecutive 20-win seasons for the first time in school history, Texas A&M has lost 10 of 11 all-time tournament contests. The lone victory came against Colorado in last year's quarterfinals.

The Aggies finished 13-3 in conference play to pick up the No. 2 seed for the first time. They set a school record for Big 12 victories and need one to tie the school mark for an entire season set in 1979-1980.

After winning three in a row, Texas A&M lost to Texas in overtime February 28 before finishing the regular season with Saturday's 94-78 victory over Missouri.

Antanas Kavaliauskas made 11-of-12 shots to score a career-high 26 points and Acie Law and Josh Carter added 20 each for the Aggies, who shot 61 percent (36-of-59) from the floor.

The tournament champion in 2004 and 2005, Oklahoma State is seeded seventh after ending the regular season with six losses in seven contests. However, the Cowboys improved to 5-0 in first-round games with Thursday's 54-39 victory over Nebraska.

Mario Boggan scored 11 points and was the lone Oklahoma State player in double figures. The Cowboys set a season low for points allowed by limiting the Cornhuskers to just 28 percent (13-of-47) shooting.

The Aggies swept both regular-season meetings against the Cowboys, including a 66-46 triumph on February 21.
