Oregon takes on California in Pac-10 semifinals

Mar 9, 2007 - 4:21 PM California (16-16) at No. 18 Oregon (24-7) 9:00 pm EST

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- California pulled off the shocker of the Pac-10 Conference Tournament on Thursday.

A day after upending third-ranked UCLA, California faces No. 18 Oregon in the semifinals Friday.

Led by Ayinde Ubaka, who scored eight of his career-high 29 points in overtime, Oregon posted a stunning 76-69 victory over UCLA.

Oregon advanced to the semis with a convincing 69-50 victory over Arizona. Freshman DaJuan Porter led the Ducks with 21 points.

The Ducks also held the Wildcats to a season-low in points. Arizona entered leading the conference in scoring at over 79.0 points per game.

"I thought for us it was the best defensive performance in 10 years against Arizona," Oregon coach Ernie Kent.

The teams split their matchups this season, with each team protecting its home floor. First team All-Pac-10 performer Aaron Brooks scored 22 points in the win January 20 in Eugene, but was held to just 12 on 5-of-12 shooting in the loss.

Oregon will be looking to exact a measure of revenge after being knocked out of the tournament by California last season, 91-87, in double overtime.

The winners faces either Washington State or Southern California on Saturday.
