Cougars seek spot in Pac-10 title game

Mar 9, 2007 - 4:28 PM USC (22-10) at No. 12 Washington St. (25-6) 11:30 pm EST

PULLMAN, Washington (Ticker) -- No. 12 Washington State already is uncharted territory.

The Cougars look to reach the Pac-10 Conference Tournament title game for the first time in school history on Friday when they meets Southern California.

Already in the semifinals for the first time, the Cougars are just 3-7 all-time in the tournament.

On Thursday, Taylor Rochestie scored 20 points to lead the second-seeded Cougars to their first tournament win since 1989 with a 74-64 triumph over archrival Washington. Derrick Low scored 15 points while Robbie Cowgill added 14 and Kyle Weaver 13.

The third-seeded Trojans overcame an 11-point second-half deficit in a 83-79 overtime triumph over Stanford on Thursday. Nick Young led the Trojans with 26 points while Lodrick Stewart scored four of his six in overtime.

It is the second meeting between the teams in less than a week after the Cougars emerged with an 88-86 double-overtime triumph last Saturday.

The winner faces either California or Oregon on Saturday.
