Florida goes for third straight SEC tournament title
Mar 11, 2007 - 1:57 PM Arkansas (21-12) at No. 6 Florida (28-5) 1:00 pm ESTATLANTA (Ticker) -- Reigning national champion Florida has a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in its sights.
The sixth-ranked Gators shoot for their third straight Southeastern Conference tournament title and ninth straight victory in the event when they face Arkansas in Sunday's championship game.
Florida's Corey Brewer scored a season-high 22 points in Saturday's 80-59 semifinal win over Mississippi.
Florida posted a 79-72 victory on January 9 in its only meeting with Arkansas this season. Taurean Green paced the Gators with 17 points in the contest.
Arkansas advanced to Sunday's final with an 81-72 win over Mississippi State. Charles Thomas and Sonny Weems scored 18 points apiece to lead the Razorbacks.
While Arkansas likely needs a win to make the NCAA Tournament, the Gators are a lock to reach the field of 65.
However, a win Sunday certainly would approve Florida's claim at a No. 1 seed. The Gators won the national championship last year as a third seed.
