Ohio State, Wisconsin clash once again for Big Ten title
Mar 11, 2007 - 2:24 PM No. 4 Wisconsin (29-4) at No. 1 Ohio St (29-3) 3:30 pm ESTCHICAGO (Ticker) -- Greg Oden certainly has seen numerous superlatives attached to his name this season. The freshman sensation would like to add a first Big Ten Conference crown to his resume.
Oden hopes to continue his dominance of the Big Ten Conference tournament Sunday when he leads top-ranked Ohio State against No. 4 Wisconsin in the championship game.
Searching for their first conference tourney title, the Buckeyes currently are riding a 16-game winning streak and have not lost since dropping a 72-69 decision in Madison on January 9.
Much of the Buckeyes' success can be attributed to the 7-1 Oden, who certainly has left his mark on this tournament. The freshman center scored 17 points and grabbed a conference tournament-record 19 rebounds Saturday to lead Ohio State to a 63-52 win over Purdue in the semifinals.
A day later, Oden hopes for another outstanding performance in the championship game, a contest the Buckeyes lost to Iowa last year. He has struggled in his two games against the Badgers, scoring a combined total of just 21 points.
Ohio State pulled out an ugly win in ugly fashion the last time in met Wisconsin, holding on for a 49-48 triumph in Columbus on February 25.
Freshman point guard Mike Conley Jr. scored 11 points and drilled a runner in the lane with four seconds left to lead the Buckeyes to the conference regular-season title.
Wisconsin advanced to Sunday's championship game thanks to a 53-41 win Saturday over Illinois. All-conference swingman Alando Tucker led the Badgers with 21 points.
