Pittsburgh looks to bounce back vs. Wright State
Mar 15, 2007 - 2:15 PM Wright St (23-9) at Pittsburgh (27-7) 9:40 pm EDTBUFFALO, New York (Ticker) -- Pittsburgh will need to regroup after an embarrassing defeat in the Big East tournament championship game.
The Panthers will draw 14th-seeded Wright State on Thursday in a West Regional first-round matchup.
The third-seeded Panthers are limping into the tournament after a 65-42 loss to Georgetown. Star center Aaron Gray was held to just three points on 1-of-13 shooting.
This is the sixth straight tournament appearance for Pittsburgh, the longest streak in school history and the longest of any Big East school.
The Panthers lost in the second round last year to Bradley and fell 15-19 all-time in the NCAAs.
Wright State earned a big by beating Butler in the Horizon League conference championship game. This will be just the second NCAA appearance for the Raiders, who lost to Indiana in the first round in 1993.
Senior guard DaShaun Wood must come up big for Wright State. The Horizon Player of the Year, he led the league in scoring (19.8 ppg).
The winner will face either sixth-seeded Duke or 11th-seeded Virginia Commonwealth in the second round.
