Former Big East rivals Georgetown, Boston College meet in NCAAs

Mar 17, 2007 - 2:00 PM No. 7 Boston College (21-11) at No. 2 Georgetown (27-6) 5:45 pm EDT

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (Ticker) - It wasn't long ago that Jared Dudley was a rising star in the Big East. Now he's the ACC Player of the Year.

Seventh-seeded Boston College is celebrating its second season in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a second round NCAA Tournament matchup against former Big East rival and second-seeded Georgetown.

The Eagles beat Texas Tech Thursday 84-75 behind 19 points from Dudley and 21 from fellow senior Sean Marshall. The two combined for 27 points in the second half as Boston College pulled away.

The Hoyas easily dispatched 15th-seeded Belmont in first round action Thursday, 80-55, and have now won 16 of their last 17 games.

Big East Player of the Year Jeff Green will most likely draw the defensive assignment on Dudley.

Both teams prefer a physical style of play, and Marshall and Georgetown center Roy Hibbert will be battling inside.

The winner moves on to the East Regional semifinals in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
